Most people have no difficulty in using the eyeQ program on their computer. Occasionally, computers have problems that are unrelated to the eyeQ
program that prevent users from enjoying the full value of the program.
The following Q&A may help you resolve these problems.
Q: Where do I find my registration (unlock) code?
A: It is listed on your packaging slip.
Q: The unlock code won't unlock my software.
A:
Many people mistakenly enter the letter "O" instead of a number "0"
(zero.) All unlock codes use the number ZERO not the letter "O".
Q: Is it necessary to leave the eyeQ CD in my CD-ROM while I use the program?
A: Yes. Simply place the CD in your CD-ROM to access all the features of eyeQ.
The mini-exercises found in the lower-right-hand corner of your screen can be accessed at any time without inserting the CD
Q: I can't hear any sound.
A:
The soundcard on your PC actually involves several sound protocols.
Each of these can be controlled separately. You may be able to hear an
audio CD just fine, but audio clips and audio with movies may not be
configured correctly. Here are a couple of things to check.
- Click on the "speaker" tray icon on the task bar. Make sure that the volume is up and "mute" is not checked.
- Do you have a sound card? Are your speakers connected correctly?
- You may need to update the software drivers for your sound card to access every function.
Q: The CD did not start automatically when I put it in the CD-ROM drive. What do I do?
A: You always start the eyeQ program using the Start>Programs>eyeQ menu or the eyeQ shortcut on your desktop. The program will find the CD automatically as it needs data.
Q: Why did the program lock up during playing?
A: Welcome to the imperfect world of computers. eyeQ
has been programmed to the highest standards of reliability, but
occasionally computers just "get tired" or "confused" and any program
can lock up.
Press CONTROL+ALT+DELETE
and a task manager window will appear. Find the eyeQ program. If it
says "not responding" then press "end task" to stop the program and
clear the problem.
PS: This works for all programs when they lock up your computer!
Q: I couldn't print the scores.
A:
The program uses your default windows system printer. Make sure that
your printer is connected, full of paper and turned on. Test it by
printing from another program such as your word processor.
Q: The program is slow responding when I click on a different section.
A:
Many CD-ROM drives start and stop to conserve power and reduce wear and
tear. Each time you enter a section, your CD-ROM drive may have to
"power up" to speed before it can access the files for that section.
This causes a delay. Laptops ALL contain power saving functions to
conserve battery power. If the delay is too annoying, simply turn off
the power saving functions so that the CD-ROM drive runs continuously.
Q: Why does my screensaver keep popping up during a session? What should I do?
A:
When you select a screen saver, you also may choose the wait time
before your screensaver is activated. During a session you will not
usually be pushing any keys or pressing the mouse. Your computer will
think that you are not using the computer and so the screen saver wait
time will trigger the screen saver.
To
solve the problem temporarily, during a session, simply move the mouse
or press the spacebar twice to trick the computer into closing the
screen saver.
The better solution is to
disable your screen saver or increase the wait time longer than 10
minutes while you practice a session.
During
a practice reading session, you may want to disable your screen saver
totally so that it will not interrupt your reading flow.
Q: Do you have any tips for using eyeQ on my laptop?
A: Laptops are great tools for busy people traveling. eyeQ
is a perfect way to use your time when traveling by plane or train.
But, the built in power saving features turn off the hard drive,
monitor and CD-ROM drive after a few moments to conserve power. This
will cause sluggishness when the drives need to power up during the eyeQ
program. The program will run faster if you turn off all power saving
features, but be aware that your battery will drain faster!
